I haven't felt the need to change any setting other than disabling autocomplete and removal of borders to make the design 'flatter'. Atom also seems to be geared towards people working on one project at a time.Īt the end of the day, I find myself going back to Notepad++ because "it just works" - out-of-box, it has all the features I need and the default color scheme is boring but it's the most clear-cut and functional. It also has irritating behavior that I haven't found a way to disable either - like restoring text editor font size to default whenever I swap themes, Tree View always finds a way back after I've turned it off, Splitting Panes always duplicates instead of moving a file onto the other half of the screen, etc. The problem with Atom is that it's really slow, even on a modern PC.

Customized, it's like Notepad++ on steroids but the problem is that it's rather bland out-of-the-box (by default, it lacks many things I like about NP++ like line-highlighting, matching brackets highlighting, etc) and the workspace setup takes time - finding packages is a chore and I wish there was a better manual for customizing the UI and colors, or even better, a UI solution for that instead of coding changes in.

Recently got into Atom (v1.2 to present), which I like much more than ST, Brackets and VSC. The idea of packages and extensions is good, but I didn't/still don't see their appeal of them since NP++ does 90% of what I need it to do.Ģ015 Tried Brackets (nice and customizable but slow and feels tedious to use Live preview is a nice feature but it only worked half the time for me) and VS Code (rather snappy but too basic for my use) I've been using Notepad++ for literally a decade now and I just haven't felt comfortable using any other program.Ģ003 ish I dabbled with Dreamweaver a bit, hated how heavy it was and oh god those endless 's and excessive div nesting.Ģ013 I tried Sublime Text but never got into it. In modern-day terms (in before, back in my day, we were just called "web designers" and that was it), I work primarily with front-end development and design, with a touch of back-end coding. I picked up HTML on my own way back in 2000 and have been working with/loving web design since.
